Our Mission

We are on a mission to engage the military-connected community at historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), other minority-serving institutions such as Hispanic-serving institutions (HSIs) and Tribal colleges, by connecting students and staff to critical resources for the career advancement of VA-eligible individuals and families on campus. To achieve this, we offer workshops, coaching and mentoring, wellness and health, valuable introductions and networking opportunities, connections to career fairs, plus many other tangible benefits for the niche communities we serve. With the driving purpose of improving the cultural and academic experience for the military-affiliated community at HBCUs, we strive to forge new connections across the veteran space every day. - VETSxHBCU

Legislative

Priorities

As a nonpartisan organization headquartered in Baltimore and serving 15,000 individuals all across the nation, VETSxHBCU represents, and proudly advocates on behalf of, U.S. military veterans who are students enrolled at Historically-Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and those whom through family are connected to the military at HBCUs. As our organization grows, in the near future we aim to also work closely with military-connected individuals, in student or faculty roles, at Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs), Tribal colleges, and other Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs). Moreover, among our missions is to provide quality mentorship to potential military-connected students considering attending HBCUs. In short, VETSxHBCU aims to be a reliable resource of veterans and military-connected individuals at HBCU schools for lawmakers, researchers, VSOs, and the general public. As the 118th Congress is now fully underway, VETSxHBCU is pleased to share with you our legislative and issue priorities on behalf of the patriotic and ambitious communities we serve.

“Recognizing that many veterans & family members are in need of much deserved engagement, VETSxHBCU aims to fill in the gaps where they exist for the over 15,000 student veterans and family members currently enrolled at over 100 HBCUs across the nation by connecting everyone to opportunities. We wish to empower the military-connected community on HBCUs & minority-serving institutions across the nation through advocacy, education, wellness, and workshops.

HBCUs and minority-serving institutions can be excellent opportunities for veterans and families to grow after service, so we want to support that transition how we can. We will forge connections amongst a vast network of opportunities to help students and faculty thrive during their time in higher education. These professional connections will facilitate career growth, networking, and potential employment at institutions, organizations, and companies that understand the unique value graduates from minority-serving institutions bring to the discussion table. Using this culturally-informed lens, VETSxHBCU intends to form a better future for the veterans, family members, students, and staff members at these institutions of higher learning.”
